The following positions are up for re-election:   Level 4 Chair, Level 6 Chair, Level 8 Chair, Secretary Chair and Elite Chair. 

Please Submit your nominations by April 24th  .  All resumes must be emailed to Terry Theobald at TTheobald@aol.com by April 24th.  Election Voting will begin on May 1st and ends May 15th.
 

        The election of the Illinois State USAG Committee Members is done on a staggered year system in May of every year.  Each elected member: a) serves a two year term b) has one vote c) must be nominated by a USAG professional member and must first have given permission to be nominated.

Your Committee members are important people in Illinois.  They are responsible for decisions that affect your gymnasts and your program He/she should be able to make decisions for the betterment of all gymnasts and gymnastic programs.  Your Committee members should be people who are capable of effectively representing your views and suggestions to the State Committee and Chairman.  This enables the State Chairman to better represent the state of Illinois at Regional and National meetings.

Duties of:  

Level Chairman's Requirements and Responsibilities

1)   Be a member in good standing of USA Gymnastics

2)   Knowledge of Illinois, Regional and USA Gymnastics Rules & Policies.

3)   Able to make decisions in the best interest of the entire USA Gymnastics program, regardless of their personal interests and affiliations.

4)   Be the State Chairperson for their particular level.

5)   Track athletes “in” and “out” of their specific level.

6)   Must be present and assist in the State Meet Series (At their level).

a)  Work with the Meet Director to ensure that the meet run according to all of the rules that apply.

b) Establish age groups for level.
7) Level 8/9/10

 i) Keep the Regional and National personnel updated with all necessary information.

ii) Be present at the Regional Meet, if possible, to distribute the state gift.  

8) Help with the State Banquet, State Congress and State Training Camps.

9) Have access to a computer

a) Must have Microsoft Office -most of the communications that are sent     between the State Committee is sent in this format.

10) Have a secure email address. 

11) Have a fax machine that is confidential.

12) Able to attend all Committee meetings, of which there are usually 3 to 4 a year.  These meeting generally occur at most major gymnastics events (State Meet, State Congress, Regional Congress) etc.

13) Understand that this position has the responsibility of confidentiality.

Secretary’s Requirements and Responsibilities

1) Knowledge of Illinois, Regional and USA Gymnastics Rules & Policies
2) Able to make decisions in the best interest of the entire USA Gymnastics program, regardless of their personal interests and affiliations.
3) Keeper of the State Records, Agendas, Newsletter, Minutes of meetings.

4) Designs and Prints all State certificates and sends to Level Chairs recommendation for distribution. 

5) Assists with the formatting of records for the score tracker and website.

6) Help with the State Banquet, State Congress and State Training Camps
7) Access to computer 

a. Must have Microsoft Office -- most of the communications that are sent between

     the state Committee are in that format

8) A secure email address 

9) A Fax machine that is confidential .

10) Able to attend all Committee meetings, of which there are usually 3 or 4 a year.  Meetings typically occur at

most major gymnastics events (State Meet, State Congress, Regional Congress) etc.

11) To exercise the understanding that this position has many areas of confidentiality

12) Prior Committee Position is strongly suggested

13) A member in good standing of USA Gymnastics

 

 

Elite Chairman's responsibilities

1)      Be a USAG member in good standing.
 

2)      Keep State abreast of Elite Program in Illinois.
 

3)      Have a working knowledge of the Elite program
 

4)      Knowledgeable with both Illinois and USAG R&P.
 

5)      Have access to Pentium computer.
 

6)      Have a secure email address.

NINA DENT INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME 
 
Nina Dent was inducted into the illinois High School Girls Gymnastics Association on February 20, 2010 at Palatine High School. Nina was being honored for her Illinois high school success and her continued leadership experiences in our sport of gymnastics. Her many experiences include being a highly successful high school gymnast, a collegiate scholarship athlete at Ohio State University and later a college coach at OSU, a National Judge, a past mother of a gymnast, and currently the Ohio State USAG Chair. Nina had her past high school coach, Skip Ray plus two high school teammates from Illinois, Jeri Hoppe and Sheryl Hilbert come to honor her. Her husband, Patrick, also was present for this special day. illinois had its own group of supporters for Nina including Norbert Bendixen, Sandy Oldham, and Hilary Carlson. We are all very proud of Nina who is very deserving of this prestigious award. Nina continues to do many great tasks with her leadership in Ohio and as part of the Region V Committee. Congratulations Nina as we are very proud of you and your honor!

We are extending the call for nominations to March 31st. These National officers are elected by the members of their respective committees after receiving final ballots on July 1, 2010.

    Illinois JO Coach Of The Year

    The Illinois Committee has been given the responsibility of nominating a JO Coach of the year as Illinois Nominee, step towards National Coach of the Year.
    As of last year it is now a yearly responsibility (Last year Illinois JO Coach of the year Dan & Beth Miller)
    Illinois JO Coach of the Year Nominee is then placed on the list of the other states in Regional 5.  The Regional Committee then nominates one from that list to be placed on the list for the National JO Coach of the Year.
    The individual states were asked to supply the State JO Coach of the Year on or before the Regional Meet. 
    The Awards for Regional ; Rookie Coach, Elite Coach and possible additional Regional JO Coach of the year, along with Elite Gymnast and JO Gymnasts of the year will be decided at the Regional Committee meeting in June and presented at the Annual Regional Awards Banquet in Conjunction with the Regional Congress in September.

    U.S. gymnasts selected to compete in friendly exchanges in Germany and France
     
    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., April 25, 2009 – 2008 Olympic team silver-medalist Bridget Sloan of Pittsboro, Ind., is among the eight members of the U.S. Women’s National Team who will compete in the friendly international exchanges held on May 1 in Muelheim, Germany, and on May 8 in Rouen, France.
    In addition to Sloan, the gymnasts who will compete in Germany and France are: Bridgette Caquatto, Naperville, IL; Naperville Gymnastics Club, Mackenzie Caquatto, Naperville, IL, Naperville Gymnastics Club.

    Marijka Botterman was nominated as one of the female student athlete’s to receive the Spirit Award from the University of Illinois.  She is a senior on the Women’s Gymnastics Team that made its first trip in school history to NCAA National Competition.  Only 12 teams in the nation advance to this competition each year.  She also broke the school record on vault posting a 9.95!  https://illinois.edu/formBuilder/Secure?id=6796707

    Attention: Level 9, Eastern Participants, Parents and Coaches
     I was jut notified that Expedia, Hotels.com, etc. has been booking rooms into the Holiday Inn for Easterns in Tupelo and the hotel has been sold out for weeks.  The management is in contact with the agencies to remove the hotel from these agencies sights.  However, just at the Holiday Inn, about fifty people think they have rooms and don't.  They are checking other hotels to see if it is happening to them.  Please distribute to your membership that if they have a room at any hotel and it was not booked directly with the hotel, they need to call for confirmation.

    I'm not sure if you've heard about this, but a little girl from Edwardsville,
    Illinois was killed Friday when she was playing in a culvert and it collapsed
    on her. Her name was Macie Crow and she was 7 years old and a level 4 gymnast
    at the Edwardsville YMCA. I had the priviledge of working with Macie last
    summer when I was helping coach at the Y. She was one of those kids that could
    light up a room with her smile. This is a tragic event here in southern
    Illinois and I believe it is something the entire Illinois gymnastics community
